Vibro Sifters


vibro sifter The Vibro Sifter  (also called separators and sieves) separate bulk solid materials from solids and slurries using multi-plane, inertial vibration that causes particles to pass through apertures in the screen or to travel across the screen surface in controlled pathways.

Typical applications include sifting, scalping, classifying, de-dusting and de-lumping of dry bulk solids, or dewatering of solids-laden slurries. The screeners range in diameter from 18 in. to 100 in. (460 mm to 2540 mm) and are offered with single or multiple screening decks, separating particles in one to five predetermined sizes ranging from 2 in. (50 mm) to 500 mesh (25 microns).

A wide range of models and specialized options satisfy a broad range of applications from the most simple to the most challenging, in capacities ranging from several pounds/kilograms to more than 70 metric tons per hour.

All Prochem circular vibratory screeners are offered in gravity-fed and in-line pneumatic models for batch or continuous operation, and are available to industrial, food, dairy and pharmaceutical standards.

How it Works

The main screening assembly of a Prochem Vibro Sifter is suspended on rugged springs that allow it to vibrate freely while minimizing power consumption and preventing vibration transmission to the floor. The assembly is equipped with one imbalanced-weight gyratory motor that creates multi-plane inertial vibration for the purpose of controlling the flow path of material on screen surfaces, and maximizing the rate at which material passes through the screen.

Material is fed onto the center of the screen, causing particles larger than screen apertures to travel across the screen surface in controlled pathways, and exit through a discharge spout located at the screen's periphery, while particles smaller than screen apertures pass through the screen onto a lower screen or exit through a lower discharge spout.

Single-deck screeners are generally utilized for "scalping" or "sifting" (removing a small percentage of oversize material through the upper discharge spout), for "de-dusting" (removing a small percentage of undersize material through the lower discharge spout), or for "dewatering" (removing liquid through the lower discharge spout).

Multi-deck screeners (two-deck shown) are generally utilized for "classifying" of particles in three to five predetermined sizes, or when equipped with integral screening decks, for increasing the capacity of a screener without increasing its diameter.

High Capacity Classifiers employ a coarse upper screen to scalp, and a fine-mesh lower screen to dedust.

On-size material is discharged at high rates via a 360° annular gap (instead of a discharge spout) into the unit's outer frame, eliminating a material choke point.

Material drops freely onto a steeply sloping pan and exits through a large discharge spout at rates up to 70 tons per hour.

Available from 60" to 100" (1530mm to 2540mm) in diameter.

Widely used for removing oversize particles and fines from plastic pellets, grains, sugar, salt, fertilizer and other materials typically handled at ultra-high rates.


Low-Profile Screeners

These separators employ two unbalanced-weight gyratory motors mounted on opposing exterior sidewalls of the unit (instead of one motor positioned beneath the screening chamber), reducing minimum height requirements significantly.

This Prochem innovation also enables the bottom outlet to be located directly below the top inlet, allowing material to fall vertically through the screen at high rates.

Available from 18" to 84" (460mm to 2135mm) in diameter



Bag Dump Vibratory Screeners with Dust Collector

bag dump screenThe Prochem combination Bag Dump Screener/Dust Collector scalps bag scraps and other oversize materials from manually dumped bulk materials while protecting the operator and plant environment against dust contamination.

Integral to the unit is an ultra low-profile, vibratory screener that affords a sufficiently low deck height, and space below the screener outlet for connection to mechanical or pneumatic conveyors, process equipment or storage vessels.

Ambient air and dust from dumping activities is drawn onto the exterior of two cartridge filters that derive vacuum from a top-mounted exhaust fan. Dust accumulated on the filters' exterior surfaces is dislodged by overcoming continuous negative pressure within the cartridge filters, with positive pressure introduced in short blasts on a timed cycle by pulse jet nozzles.

Dislodged material falls into the screener while instant resumption of negative pressure collects any dust generated by the filter cleansing operation. Vibratory action maximizes the rate at which on-size particles pass through the screen. On-size material can be gravity-discharged from the screener's outlet, or fed into a pneumatic or gravity conveyor line.

Offered in 24", 30" and 40" (610, 760 and 1015mm) diameters. Available to industrial, food, dairy and pharmaceutical standards including 3-A, FDA and BISSC.


Pneumatic In-Line Screeners

PNEUMATI-SIFTER separators scalp dry materials in-line with dilute-phase pneumatic conveying systems at high rates, removing oversize particles and foreign materials from plastic resin, flour, starch, sugar, and numerous food and chemical products.

These pressurized systems are ideal for loading/unloading of trucks or rail cars, or conveying materials between process or storage areas.

Available in diameters from 24" to 60" (610mm to 1530mm) to handle up to 30,000 lbs./hr. (13,600 kg/hr), depending on material.



Pneumatic Ultra-High Capacity In-Line Screeners

This PNEUMATI-SIFTER vibratory separator employs twin screening decks for in-line pneumatic scalping or dedusting of up to 60,000 lbs./hr (27,200 kg/hr) of bulk material, and an Air-Lift device that allows rapid disassembly, cleaning, inspection and screen changes.

The chambers above the top screen and below the bottom screen are connected by a central bypass chute, causing on-size material entering the central chamber to reach the bottom outlet via two pathways: upward through the top screen then downward through the chute; or downward through the bottom screen. Oversize material is ejected through a spout at the periphery of the lower screen.

The upper and lower screens are readily changed, or the entire unit disassembled for thorough wash down, by loosening all quick-disconnect clamps and the band clamps that connect housing sections, then activating the Air-Lift device to separate the sections as required.

A tangential inlet along the horizontal centerline of the central chamber prevents material from impacting screens at 90° angles. Gradual changes in flow stream direction minimize breakage of oversize foreign material and subsequent material contamination, and reduce screen breakage significantly.

The unit is equipped with "ball tray" anti-blinding devices to dislodge near-size particles from apertures in the upstream side of upper and lower screens, and is intended to remove oversize particles from plastic resin, flour, starch, sugar, and numerous food and chemical products gently, at ultra-high rates. Applications include loading and unloading of trucks and railcars, and conveying of material between process or storage areas.

Offered in 48" (1219mm) and 60" (1525mm) diameters, the twin-screen machines are available to 3-A, FDA, BISSC and other sanitary standards.


Centrifugal Screener

centri sifterThe centrifugal sifter features a hinged end cover and three-bearing shaft that cantilevers for quick removal of internal components.

External roller bearings are located at the motor end of the shaft and on a hinged cover at the discharge end for maximum support and vibration-free operation. When the end cover is hinged open, the shaft becomes a cantilever supported by a third externally mounted roller bearing located between the motor-end bearing and material feed point, allowing internal components to slide freely from the opposite shaft end.

The sifter is ideal for food, dairy and pharmaceutical applications requiring thorough wash-down, as well as general chemical applications involving frequent screen changes/inspections or runs of multiple materials with no cross contamination.

Dry or moist bulk solid material is gravity-fed into the feed inlet and redirected into the cylindrical sifting chamber by means of a feed screw. In addition to sifting, scalping and dedusting of dry bulk materials, the screener can break up soft agglomerates and/or dewater moist solids or slurries.
